B.C. FERRIESs: Reservations mandatory for vehicles going from Horseshoe Bay (Vancouver) to Departure Bay (Nanaimo, Vancouver Island) starting the fall

B.C. Ferries' Horseshoe Bay terminal in Vancouver is one of its busiest, serving destinations including Nanaimo, Bowen Island and the Sunshine Coast. Vehicle reservations will be mandatory from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay in Nanaimo starting the fall when construction at the West Vancouver terminal gets underway. B.C. Ferries said major construction will start at Horseshoe Bay terminal in the fall, including the deconstruction of the elevated concrete holding area and reloca-tion of the terminal’s control tower. During this time, space inside the terminal will be reduced by 25 per cent. Overall vehicle space is expected “to remain below current levels for several years.” A reservation is needed to prevent traffic from backing up onto the freeway outside the terminal and to maintain traffic flow through the terminal during construction, said the ferry company. Mandatory bookings only apply to vehicles travelling from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay. Reservations are not required for vehicles sailing from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay, or foot passengers.
